Thought for the Week - Autumn 2025

In year 3 we went outside into our school fields and found an object to hold whilst we said a silent prayer to God to be thankful for the wonderful world he has created for us. We used natural objects from around our school field.

Y1 We watch the story 'The boy who cried wolf' and discussed as a class the importance of telling the truth and not lying. Telling a lie just once, might mean your friends never fully trust you again.

Penguins class thought about what they were thankful for, spent time outside thinking about their day and the world around them and then wrote what things they were happy and thankful for today.

Y4S discussed all the good things we have in our lives and that we can remember them when we’re having a tricky day or going through a difficult time.
We talked about positive attitudes and the difference our friends can make when we’re feeling unhappy.
We realised that focusing on the positives and trying not to dwell on the negatives can help us to feel better.
We went to the woods this week. We appreciated the natural world around us and noticed how calm we felt.
Nature can help us to feel positive emotions like joy and peace

When do people need people? How can you be the help that is needed? What does tolerance and respect look like?
As part of Black History month, Year 3 watched the poet Benjamin Zephaniah read his book 'People need people' and reflected where in their own life they need people to help them or be with them.

Who is your role model and why?

We considered things we’d previously had at to work hard at and keep trying with to make progress.
We reflected on how we had now mastered these skills!
Then we read a story about Pip the Penguin and how he had kept trying until he could achieve his goal .
We thought about the MR PIC values that we would need to apply and we planned a new goal for ourselves! We all agreed we needed all our MR PIC values to achieve our new goals!

For our thought of the week “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right” we began our thinking with a Philosophy For Children opening task of I see, I think, I wonder.
We then moved on to learning about Rosa Parks and how she stood up for what she knew was right and didn’t show fear whilst standing up for what she believed in.
Finally, the children completed a diamond nine task using some statements to show which they believed to be the most important.

As a class we came up with all the ways we can help others that do not cost lots of money.

We started by thinking about the things that make us feel happy and respected.

We then used drama to explore these scenarios:

Finally, we sorted some cards into respectful or disrespectful choices:

We looked at ordinary objects from the natural world such as stones, shells and wood. The more closely we observed them, the more extraordinary we realised they were! We discussed that Christians believe that God made the world and everything in it so even the smallest, most ordinary blade of glass has been created by Him.
