Thought for the Week - Autumn 2022

Mary said ‘yes’ to God – are there times when you need to say ‘yes’ to something big?

Year 1 explored the extraordinary story of the Nativity this week in thought for the week using a painting by Pieter Aertsen called 'The adoration of the Maji'.

How do I build trust with my friends and family?

In Year 1 the children have been thinking about why a Christian would put their trust in God.

How do I build trust with my friends and family?

This week Puffins were having lots of conversation about trust. Firstly, we decided to do trust falls on our best friends and see if they would catch us. Then we drew a picture of all our favourite things as well as who we trust and why, we put a lot of effort into our drawing and colouring. We then chose someone in the class to keep a hold of our picture for the rest of the day, they had to keep it safe for us. At the end of the day we gave back the owner and we had a wonderful chat about trust in the classroom.

Reflect on how you have earned the respect of others today? How can we show respect?

How does the image of a beggar make you feel?

What do you want to do about it? How can we help to make a change?

.

Remembrance Day

In Year R's worship this week we have been thinking about why we celebrate Remembrance and why we wear a poppy in November. We visited the War memorial and looked at the names of the soldiers who had died in the war. Whilst we were at the war memorial we talked to the children about Eleanor Dlugosz who died in the war in Iraq in 2007 and was a past pupil of the school.
Then we went into the churchyard looking for poppies. We talked to the children about the ribbons on the fence and shared if there were people we had known who had died. Several children chose to tie up ribbons on the fence to remember grandparents and great grandparents. One child tied a ribbon for a sibling who had died and another for her mummy. We reflected upon how we were lucky to have known and loved these people.

We watched a video about Remembrance Sunday and we learnt a song called "Wear a poppy today."

We have also learnt about Captain Sir Tom Moore and what he achieved in his life. We discussed that he never stopped trying to help people, even when he was 100! We also talked about how he didn't give up on his target of 100 laps, even if he felt tired and didn't want to do it.

Use an image of a child crying – ask the children to think about why?

Are there times that you have felt like this?
How can God help give us the strength we need?

Do you sometimes stop yourself from succeeding? How can you change that mind set?

We continued to think about sustainability during worship this week.  Children have designed t-shirts to share their own message and encourage others. Which one would you wear?

What would you like to achieve in your life that will make future generations thankful? What legacy would you wish to leave?

In Year R we looked at vegetables and found out how they grow in the grow in the ground (under the soil, half in half out, on the soil, on the stem)

We talked about the different countries where the vegetables are grown.

At our harvest festival the children explained how wheat is grown.

"The farmer ploughs the field with a combine harvester.

The farmer plants the seeds with a seed drill.

The seeds need the sunshine to grow.

The seeds need the rain to grow.

The seeds begin to grow.

Soon the fields are full of wheat."

What can you do to grow and be fruitful?

In our thought for the week Year 1 used a poem from the rhyming bible to look at the parable of the Sower and the seed.  They then discussed how this parable may have an impact on our lives and home and in school.

At night do you look back on the day and remember good things?

In Worship this week Year 2 did a circle time, children told everyone something good that has happened or will happen to them today.

Think about your friends; which of them always seem to be happy? How can you make someone happy?

This week in worship Year 5 discussed the importance of thinking positively and looking at what we can be thankful for.  After lots of discussion, we realised that just by being thankful, we can feel happier and improve our well-being.  Below are some of the things that we are thankful for...

Have you been honest with yourself?

Year 1 have been thinking about what the word legacy means, and how this links to the legacy Queen Elizabeth 2nd left behind.  The children reflected on memories they had of the Queen whilst colouring in a rainbow - just like the rainbow that appeared over Windsor castle during the announcement of her death.

Looking back on our summer break – be thankful for all you have done.

Year 2 have made gratitude jars and reflected carefully about what they have to be thankful for in their lives.
